Martinique is a rugged Caribbean island that’s part of the Lesser Antilles. An overseas region of France, its culture reflects a distinctive blend of French and West Indian influences. Martinique is a French island in the Lesser Antilles, toward the eastern end of the Caribbean Sea. Nestled between Barbados and St Lucia, the 1,128-square-km Windward Island has a remarkable mix of history, culture and, of course, idyllic white-sand beaches. For a bit of variety, you can head toward the northern end of Martinique and find black-sand beaches in the shadow of the active volcano that created them – Mont Pelée.

• Les Salines: Located at the southern tip of the island, this is often cited as the most beautiful beach in Martinique, characterized by its fine white sand, turquoise waters, and arching coconut palms. It's popular with families and ideal for swimming and sunbathing, though it can get crowded on weekends.
• Anses d'Arlet (Anse Dufour and Anse Noire): These two beaches are known for their distinct sand colors – Anse Dufour with white sand and Anse Noire with black sand. They offer excellent snorkeling opportunities, with numerous tropical fish and sea turtles to spot.
• Anse Couleuvre:
   This wild and secluded black sand beach on the northern coast is a hidden gem nestled within a tropical forest. The drive to get there is an adventure in itself, with winding roads through volcanic peaks. It's also a great spot for snorkeling and diving.
• Le Diamant Beach: A long stretch of white sand beach offering magnificent views of Diamond Rock, a volcanic rock formation with historical significance. It's popular with bodyboarders due to the waves, but swimming can be risky at times
• Montagne Pelée: This active volcano dominates the landscape of northern Martinique and offers challenging hikes for experienced trekkers. Several trails lead to the summit, providing breathtaking panoramic views. Early mornings are best to avoid the clouds that often obscure the peak.
• Gorges de la Falaise: A series of small gorges leading to a beautiful waterfall, offering a unique "river hike" experience. Guides are available to assist with navigating the deep-water sections. Sturdy waterproof shoes are highly recommended.
• Presqu'île de la Caravelle: A nature reserve on the eastern side of Martinique boasting dense vegetation, impressive biodiversity, and panoramic views. It's popular for hiking and exploring historical sites like the Château Dubuc ruins.
• Balata Botanical Garden: Located just outside Fort-de-France, this lush botanical garden is home to diverse plant species and wildlife. It's ideal for leisurely strolls and offers a serene atmosphere with scenic views.
